If you want to find a simple solution where the client
does not need to leave the computer on when they leave, you may want
to consider utilizing the automatic sync capabilities between a
Yahoo calendar and a Blackberry or orchestrate this. When you update
thier Yahoo calendar it automatically shows up on thier Blackberry.
Then when the client returns home, you can sync the Blackberry to
Outlook to get everything up to date. The client needs to get a
Yahoo login and then either provide you with her login info, or you
also get a Yahoo login and she shares her calendar out to you with
full edit rights.
I stumbled upon this purely by accident a couple of weeks ago. I
needed to book a lot of appointments for someone in organizing a big
event. She has Outlook and a Blackberry, and an assistant who
manages her calendar, emails, etc. I already had a Yahoo account,
but she didn’t, so I created one on her behalf and gave myself full
rights to her calendar. She gave her login info to her assistant. As
I was arranging the appointments on her behalf I would open my
Yahoo, go to my calendar, select to open her calendar, and start
entering the appointments. She would automatically see the new
appointments in her Blackberry. At the same time, her assistant was
also logged into her Yahoo calendar and was making appointments as
well. As these where happening, I would see the new appointments and
Penny would see the new appointments display on her Blackberry. It
was really a surprise and a bonus. Then she syncs her Blackberry
with her desktop Outlook using Blackberry Desktop Manager and
everything matches, all done without needing to keep her computer on
at home/office. No extra money needed to be spent as she had all the
components available already. Just needed to create a free Yahoo
account and she was ready to roll. When she doesn’t want me to
access her Yahoo calendar anymore she changes the sharing options
within her Yahoo calendar. Also, you can use the sync tool between
Yahoo and Outlook instead of using the Blackberry Desktop Manager.
That works great too.
The sync between the Blackberry and a Yahoo account is pretty new.
April of this year I think. Not sure what type of configuration is
needed to make it work. Penny said the Yahoo appointments just
started showing up in her Blackberry.
This posting is in addition to the one I posted earlier about
accessing a client’s calendar using Blackberry and Yahoo. I was
asked by a reader if this would also work for sharing contacts.
Here’s the email I sent to her. I thought this might be good info
for all.

Unfortunately, you can’t share your Yahoo contacts with others, only
the calendar. I know..too bad.
I suppose it would work just fine if your client gave you their
Yahoo login and password. Then you could log into their Yahoo
account and update contact info. I know that the Blackberry/Yahoo
sync feature works for it all…the Yahoo inbox, contacts, calendar,
and tasks. In doing a bit more research, I found out that the
service is called Yahoo Go for Mobile and it’s available for certain
Nokia phones, Windows mobile phones, and Blackberrys.
