Using Twitter on Your Cell Phone

By AndreaKalli

Suppose you’re at a conference and you hear something which is just so good that you have to share it with others and Twitter it. You might be driving and see a billboard which you know will make all of your Twitter-using friends roar with laughter. Unfortunately, you don’t happen to have your computer with you. However, you do have your cell phone handy. Is there a way to tweet these messages when you aren’t at your computer? As it turns out, there is.

Your cell phone can be used as a Twitter tool. This can be extremely handy for you and everyone who follows your Twitter. Your cell phone can help you to stay in touch, both tweeting and being tweeted. Your cell phone is already a powerful tool for communication; and thanks to Twitter, it just became more useful than ever!

There is a variety of different software which allows you to Twitter using your cell phone. The type of cell phone you use may affect which programs are available to you, but there are a lot of choices: Jott, Hahlo, Mobile Twitter, Thin Cloud Twitter, Twitter to Go, Twitter SMS, Twitter IM, and Twoble are available for different types of cell phone – and all can get you ready to tweet merrily away on your phone!

These are two of the way you can use your cell phone to use Twitter to communicate with your friends.

If your phone has a web browser, you can simply navigate to http://m.twitter.com and use the web based interface. This isn’t the easiest way to go, but this does work. This website will let you use Twitter on your cell phone, sending and receiving tweets.

Flurry is another option. This is a mobile mail service and client which you can download to your cell phone after signing up for the service. Flurry has been around for a while as a mobile email service, but now it allows you to set up RSS feeds on your mobile phone. Of course, you can set an RSS feed for your Twitter friends; just add an RSS feed for the Twitter accounts which are used by your friends. It’s free for them to use – they just Twitter away as usual. You can send out tweets on your cell phone with Flurry by using the SMS texting feature on your cell phone.

Just like your cell phone, Twitter has a lot of different uses. Thanks to your handy mobile phone, you can use the social media of Twitter to stay in touch and share those little tidbits from anywhere you happen to be. Of course, you should never tweet and drive – but as soon as you’re off the road, you can send out those tweets and keep the rest of the world up to date on what you’re doing.

As I understand it, and I could be wrong… Twitter actually started out mainly FOR cell phones / text messaging… the whole API thing changed that and the “power tweeters” cuz let’s face it… that’s a whole lot of text messages!
