Oh gosh, I'm so jealous of your fabulous established garden! Having to start from scratch AGAIN is just so hard! Some of my stuff from last year is doing great but it's just all so spread out from each other with big blocks of emptiness... any tricks to make your new landscaping look more cohesive?

oooohhhh....hyacinths! I keep meaning to plant a few for that great fragrance, but always end up forgetting about them. Did you get any snow in the storm last night? We got about 4 inches here and woke up having to shake off the trees for fear of more breakage.

It looks like the tulips are completely unaffected by the new snow. Yay! I'm looking forward to the rest of them blooming soon.

Andrea,

The tulips are beautiful as are the grape hyacinth. My tulips haven't bloomed yet...but any day now! They aren't in the sunniest location so they take a bit longer. However, I had several hyacinth (thought I'd transplanted elsewhere) come up and were so heavy with blooms. Luckily, I relieved their stems by snatching them and bringing them inside - their fragrance filled my home!

Happy digging!

We can only remove up to 25% of the lawn in the front yard. I wish, wish, wish I could afford to replace the whole thing with Legacy Buffalo Grass. I've installed it for a couple of people. It's beautiful and only needs to be watered every 2 weeks in the summer and mowed once a month. It's a lighter blue-green, but it's really nice.

Hey Andrea,
We are planning on getting rid of the grass in the back yard this year. I don't know if the covenants in our community would allow you to have clover instead of grass? We have a small back yard so we plan on enlarging the patio area include an area for a hot tub and then have a garden path that goes along the edge of the flower garden which is raised all along the fence line. I'm not if we could get away with no grass in the front area because of the covenants, but I think I'll take a look around to see if anyone else has done it.

I hope you are going to share some picture of your front yard!

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very knowledgeable with the specifics of vegetable gardening, I did find a blog that seems to offer much of the answers you seek.

Check it out http://frontrangefoodgardener.blogspot.com/2009/02/when-to-plant-vegetables.html
