Social Networking 101 – What is Social Networking?
By AndreaKalli
Social networking has transformed the way that people use the web and even the way that many people interact with each other over the last few years. People can now communicate with others all over the world without traveling – it represents a new social paradigm, in short. To learn more about social networking and what applications it may have for you, read on!
We all have friends, at least one. We call our friends, we write them and we interact with each other in person. We make friends in all manner of different ways and the more contact we have with people, the more friends we tend to make.
Social networking websites are another venue which allows us to meet people and perhaps make friends. Like a workplace, a house of worship or a hobbyist’s group, it is a place where we can meet those who have interests similar to our own. Social networking is merely a meeting place taken to the virtual realm. You can keep in touch with people you already know as well as meeting others.
It was young people who took to social networking first. It gave them a way to stay in touch with their friends in a relaxed atmosphere.
However, social networking is hardly for kids alone. There are many adults who use Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace and other social networking sites.
Adults use social networking for the same reasons as young people – to stay in touch with family and friends. If you have a favorite aunt who lives far away, you can keep in contact and even share family photos via social networking sites.
Other than the purely social aspects of these sites, business owners have found them to be valuable tools to make business contacts and even alliances with businesses in the same industries. Social networking has become a good adjunct to any marketing strategy for businesses, especially those which are web-based businesses. Social networking for business is much like being able to go out and tell consumers about your product in person. With a well crafted profile or Facebook Business Page, social networking can help businesses to get the word out about their products to an audience which would have otherwise been difficult to reach.
Social networking has become important to people of all ages and all walks of life. It can be used to keep in touch with family, make new friends, and for businesses it is a great tool that helps to create and cultivate business relationships. It shows people what you’re about so they can be comfortable with you and your expertise. It provides the opportunity to take the business relationship to the next level, and on a very friendly and open foundation.
