Time Zone Update Tool for Outlook – are you prepared?
ByI’m just now getting up to speed on this issue of the extended time
zone changes set to take effect in 2007.
This affects every person using Outlook…period.
Here’s a link to the Microsoft article for detailed information.
It is highly recommended that you read this article.

From what I understand, you’ll have to run a special Windows update
first BEFORE you run the Outlook Time Zone Update Tool. This Windows
update is not part of your automatic Windows updates. It’s available
as an optional software update. You’ll need to get the Windows
software update via Internet Explorer. Go to Tools, Windows Updates,
Custom button, click on Software-Optional on the left side of the
screen, look for and select Update for Windows XP (KB928388). Check
the checkbox and click Install this on the upper left side of the
window, then click the Install button near the center-top of the
window. If this is your first time using Windows Update to manually
install items, you’ll have to go through a process that takes a good
5 minutes. Once done, the update installation takes a few seconds.
So, to recap:
1) You’ll need to download and install a Windows Software Update
(KB928388) first.
2) Then you’ll need to download and install the Outlook Time Zone
Update Tool available through http://www.microsoft.com/downloads
IT Administrators of Exchange server will have a separate update as well.
So now, you know as much as I do about this. These are the times when
I am truly grateful my husband is a Network Administrator!
