More silly little alt code symbols for Twitter
By AndreaKalliOK, in addition to the alt codes I listed in an earlier post, I finally found a website that listed some of the more elusive alt codes that can be used in your Twitter posts.
So far, I’m finding that many of them below are not showing up properly when typed directly into Twitter anymore. If that is the case for you, you can simply copy and paste them from below. ♥ Now, something I’ve just tried out is posting to Twitter using an email from Outlook to my ping.fm account (then ping sends to Twitter). The alt-codes below work this way, but ping.fm also sends an extra post to twitter saying "This is a multi-part message in MIME format.". Stupid, I know. I had to go into Twitter and delete it. The way I entered them in the email is: (for the raining-snow symbol) hold down the Alt key, hit the 3 key along the top of the keyboard, hit the 9 7 3 0 keys on the number pad on the right of the keyboard, let go of the Alt key. It created extra copies of some of the words and symbols that I manually deleted before sending. Rather a funky and roundabout way of do this though, but thought I would share what I was playing around with.
I located a little toolbar tool called TwitterKeys that helps with the copy/paste process.
A special thanks to this site where I found them, http://www.mistywindow.com/reference/html-characters.htm
As an extra bit of fun and coolness, I located a website that has something called "Twitter Art". Pretty fun stuff.
OK, I’m done wasting time on this now… back to work.
There was a # sign in front of all the numbers, but they all converted to the symbol once I saved the post. In order for you to see the number sequence, I removed it, so you’ll want to add the # in front of the number sequence again.
You can always check out the originating page from the link above, but if you follow my keystroke sequence it should all work for you.
To use these Alt Code Characters, here’s what you do. When you are in your Twitter window,
- Switch on the Number Lock on your keyboard.
- Press and hold the ALT key.
- Type the number of which alt code you want to get.
Disclosure: I’ve only tested a handful of these myself, on a Windows XP PC. Also tested in Outlook 2007 emails. Apologies up front if they don’t work in the environment you are in.

Thanks, dude! I’ve been looking for an Alt# Code for a check-mark, but my explorations into them haven’t progressed past 2600, (it’s a slow work in progress to find them all).

some of these aren’t working for me. they just show up as a box with numbers in them. do you know why/how to make them work?
April 8th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
I noticed they don’t all seem to work in Twitter, plus some work when posting via the Twitter website but not when using a 3rd party app to post. I guess you’ll just need to figure out which ones of these work in Twitter and which ones don’t. Sorry I can’t be of more help than that. Bummer….
April 12th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
