Business Contact Manager for Smartphone Released

By AndreaKalli

I’m very excited to see this available! Now that I have my first smartphone (I know, WAY behind the times!), and that I use Business Contact Manager 2007 for my small business, this is a very cool tool to increase my productivity while away from the office.

BONUS: Interesting features include the ability to view the History (such as related emails and appts) and the Notes (which I use heavily) for my Business Contacts, as well as the usual ability to email, text message, and call them directly from my smartphone, which is a T-Mobile Dash using Windows Mobile 6 and ActiveSync 4.5.

You must be connected to your computer that is running BCM in order for the sync to work. Doesn’t look like wireless sync is in the future for this add-in.

One thing that tripped me up at first was that the Business Contacts are not mixed in with the other contacts on my phone, but they are in a separate area called Business Contacts easily located when I click Start on the main page of my phone.

What I find missing is the ability to add Business Contacts to speed-dial and some of the other things you can do with the other Contacts, but I don’t think I’ll miss these features for any of my Business Contacts.

Overall, I’m very pleased with this. Did I mention this is a free download from Microsoft? Now, there’s another 3rd-party sync tool I found that has more features AND a price tag, and if you want to check it out go to http://www.companionlink.com/products/companionlink.html. For me, I’ll stick with the free tool from Microsoft.

How did I ever live without a smartphone before now?!?!?

Anyway, here’s the blog post from the BCM blog folks that includes a link to Microsoft’s download site.
